Parton's representatives said she died after a brief battle with cancer. The specific type of cancer was not disclosed. She died at Vanderbilt-Ingram Cancer Center in Nashville surrounded by loved ones.

Parton had spoken publicly about experiencing health challenges during the past year. She also faced the loss of her husband, Carl Dean, who died in March 2025 after nearly 60 years of marriage.
