The Brief

At least 14 people, including schoolchildren, were hospitalized after a Bullitt County Public Schools bus carrying 28 Lebanon Junction Elementary students crashed and overturned Monday afternoon in Kentucky.

The crash happened around 4:45 p.m. on Wilson Creek Road, according to Bullitt County Public Schools. Emergency crews transported the bus driver and eight students to area hospitals. Parents took another five injured students to local medical facilities.

A spokesperson for Norton Children's Hospital said seven patients from the crash were treated there and all had minor injuries. No serious injuries were reported in the latest information available.

What We Know

The bus was carrying 28 students from Lebanon Junction Elementary School when the crash occurred Monday afternoon.

The school district said emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene and began treating students and the driver. All five Bullitt County ambulances responded to the crash, while additional emergency medical crews came from Nelson and Jefferson counties.

The Lebanon Junction Fire Department and Bullitt County Sheriff's Office also responded, according to the school district.

Fourteen people ultimately received hospital treatment. Emergency services transported the driver and eight students, while parents transported five additional students to medical facilities themselves.

Norton Children's Hospital treated seven patients connected to the crash. The hospital said those patients suffered only minor injuries.

The incident prompted a significant emergency response because of the number of students involved and the overturned bus. The district said the safety of students and staff remained its highest priority and thanked the Lebanon Junction community for its support.
